‘Hotel on the Persian Gulf’

Invited International competition
2013
Area 40,000sqm

A competition design for a new resort hotel of distinct character in a completely man-made physical context (Dubai's Palm). All public spaces of the hotel sit beneath a massive catacomb-like masonry structure, reminiscent of an old fortification. Amongst the vaults, deeply shaded, intensely planted courtyards establish an arrival sequence and route through the hotel. Pools and terraces shelter at the edge of the structure.

Hotel rooms are gathered into a series of breeze-catching pavilions on the roof of the vaults.
